Gestalt Volume 7

Rated “T+” for “Older Teen”

In the creation myth, the gods of Salsaroa battled each other for supremacy.  One of those gods turned traitor, a demon god so feared that he is called him “G,” instead of by his name, “Gestalt.”  Some people still seek out G.  One of them is Father Olivier, a priest of the Vasaria Order.  Olivier and his companions: the male sorcerer-summoner who became a female, Ouri; the dark elf, Suzu; and the fortune teller and former Knight of the Round Table, Shazan, get closer to their destination.

Gestalt, Vol. 7 opens in Linclo where Olivier and company seek passage to Spirit Island – their last stop before Gestalt.  Once on the ocean, they help a young man avenge his father’s death.  When they finally arrive on Gestalt, they are shocked by what they find.

THE LOWDOWN:  An odd pairing of genres:  adventure, comedy, drama, and quest fantasy, Gestalt offers laughs with conspiracy and family melodrama with political intrigue.  Creator Yun Kouga, however, really builds this series on characters.  It’s not that they are memorable; it’s simply that they are so quirky and unpredictable that they make you want to see what they do next.  Now, that the cast is on Gestalt, I imagine that the real fun is probably about to begin.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Readers looking for a unique fantasy manga will want to give Gestalt a try.
