With the publication of Fragmenta 2: Cross Nurses & Agile Clothes, writer/graphic novelist John Ira Thomas (Lost in the Wash) shares his fragmenta – stories that never made it all the way to finished form as a comic book or graphic novel.  Thomas shares his aborted attempts to create horror comics that capture the feel of cheap movies, especially horror/exploitation movies.  [Writer/director/producer Fred Olen Ray is referenced.]

Fragmenta 2 contains notes, introductory material, essays, scripts, and pencil art by Will Beard (Syphilitic Cowboys) for two never-completed comic books.  One is “Killer Clothes,” a story in which, via demonic power, clothes come alive and become both killers and the instruments of killing – both the slasher and his knife.  The second unfinished comic book was to be an unauthorized sequel to Fred Olen Ray’s Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, entitled “Student Chainsaw Nurses.”  Beard’s deranged take on early Berni Wrightson is simply glorious.

It’s fun to read the essays, and my eyes enjoyed Beard’s deranged eye candy comics drawings.  Fans of horror comics will find the $5 cover price a bargain to enjoy this look at scary movie comic books that should not have been… aborted.
