Twenty-four-year-old Asuka Takanashi is a successful career woman with an old-fashioned dream. She wants to get married and become a housewife. She thinks that she is getting close to that dream, but her boyfriend of five years abruptly breaks up with Asuka to pursue his own career goals. Asuka next meets 28-year-old Ryu Nanami, a popular newscaster for the PTV network. She finds herself attracted to the rumored womanizer, but Ryu says that he'd rather die than get married.

As Everyone's Getting Married, Vol. 2 (Chapters 6 to 10) opens, Asuka still wants to get married, and Nanami still does not want to get married. However, they are ready to take their relationship to the next level (sex, y'all), but can they find the time to bump and grind? Nanami's star is on the rise, and hosting and voice-over assignments are coming in hot. The couple never seems to be able to find time to be together. Asuka wonders if she is making the right decision sticking by Nanami, even if she does really love him.

THE LOWDOWN: I previously described the Everyone's Getting Married manga as one of those manga that pits a man and woman at odds and/or with different personalities against one another. In real life, such romances are destined for failure, sooner or later, even if they become a couple and get married. Still, the shojo manga lover in me will stick by such a couple, every page of the way.

Everyone's Getting Married Volume 2 really focuses in on the inherent problems of this relationship. It is as if creator Izumi Miyazono is determined to set up all manner of pitfalls for her star couple. Will that make the happy ending a real forever-after? I don't know. Everyone's Getting Married is such a fun read that I don't want to ask the tough questions. I just want to enjoy the read.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE: Fans of shojo manga for older teen and adult readers will want the Shojo Beat title, Everyone's Getting Married.
