This is the big finale of the Dead@17 saga that has spanned the course of several mini-series since the fall of 2003. Nara the reborned girl whose task, handed by God is fight Bolabogg, a demon is nearing the end. In this issue, Howard reveals the whereabouts of Nara’s father and reunites all the major actors from all the Dead @ 17 series so they can conclude this story in the ultimate fight between Heaven and Hell.

Gone is the padding of prior issues. Howard fills this one with lots of action and surprising twists. Although we know the end is near, we never quite know how it will end. As the last chapter of the Dead@17, Howard explains all remaining questions. The remarkable thing about the entire Dead@17 series, is that I realized that I had read a Christian comic book series, but without the overbearing preaching.

Howard shows that he can cram smaller panels as needed to tell his story when he needs. The fight scene with Bolabogg is pure super hero slugfest rendered in the best manner. However, there are a few storytelling problems such as how did James Freehorn died exactly. That’s because Howard relies too much on close ups that work well for film, but not at all for comics. More exposition would have helped.
