The Montreal Comic-Con will be held on the weekend of September 19th-20th, 2009 at Place Bonaventure. Montreal has had a few other comic book conventions in the past some of which were organized by Hobby Star, the promoters of the FanExpo. The market being split between North American comic books and European bande dessinées, it has been a difficult endeavour for Montreal comic book conventions to take place in the past. For example, the largest comic book related event in Montreal in the past was sponsored by the Just For Laugh group as part of a family-themed comic book exposition. That event was snubbed by many in the Montreal comic book industry.

The current line up of the Montreal Comic-Con is decidedly more North American oriented. I sincerely wish that they would reach out to the European type of market that flourishes in the city as Montreal's comic book scene is unlike any other in the world. Some artists like
Christ Oliver show a promise of that the more the intrinsic qualities of Montreal may be appearing at the first Montreal Comic-Con.

As a former Montrealer, born and raised in the sexiest city in North America, I sincerely wish that the folks from the Montreal Comic-Con succeed.
