After seeing the Devil, vampires, swamp monsters and other oddity creatures, zombies are the only ones that were absent from Moore’s Boneyard. In this volume, collecting issues 12-15, they are in town and threaten the peace of Boneyard’s wondrous inhabitants and that of the local town. That’s too bad, as the town’s folks had just learned to adjust to all the monsters nearby. Will all come out of this adventure unscathed?
This volume starts slowly with the gang picking up the pace after Roxanne, the demon called Lilith tried to seduce Michael Paris. Some lingering plot elements are finally dealt with including a very interesting story on Nessie, the swamp creature. One thing that Moore did not address properly is what happens when a regular person gets bitten by a zombie and why people should fear them.
Moore continues to deliver great pages with well-defined characters. Although this book is full of creeps and monsters, Moore makes them, interesting. There is a quality to Moore’s illustration that reminds me of the work of Steve Rude. The storytelling is similar, although, some scenes with Gluck, at the beginning of the book, are not clear visually. Moore’s inking is strong enough to carry this book without any colouring.
