The Young Leaguers attempt a rescue of the captured humans that the Reach, the aliens behind the Blue Beetle’s technology, have gathered with the help of the Light, a group of villains. Blue Beetle learns more about the armour that grafted itself to his back but there is another casualty in this episode. Seeking revenge on Kaldur, Miss Martian brain wipes Aqualad. What will the consequences be?

Before reviewing this episode, it’s important to mention that this is the last Young Justice episode in 2012. The series will return in January 2013 after just continuing for three episodes after a three months hiatus. I’m not privy to the details of why this is happening but let’s just say fans aren’t happy to say the least. Allegedly, all episodes for season two are ready to be aired.

Meagan, better known as Miss Martian encounters Kaldur in the headquarter of the Reach and attacks him mentally leaving him catatonic while discovering that Aqualad was actually a double agent working for Young Justice. This development is important as it continues the subplot of Meagan using her telepathic powers carelessly. In the past she attacked villains, but this time, she attacked a friend. Seeing Aqualad like a vegetable was not fun. But it was a total surprise as he is an important character in this series. I never expected such a development.  That’s a credit to the series’ creators who put out an incredible twist in this story.

The Black Beetle, as Wonder Girl called him, is quite an interesting villain and explains more about the Blue Beetle who according to Impulse will become a major villain in the future. This is interesting to say the least. The Reach and Black Beetle wanted to remove the beetle on Blue Beetle’s back because according to them, it’s malfunctioning. I’m curious about how the Reach and the beetle armour interact with one another. Are the armour separate beings from their hosts? Again, the operation led by Nightwing was spotless. I really like seeing how they work together when on a mission. It’s surprising that even Superboy and Wonder Girl were unable to defeat Black Beetle. He seems like a major threat.

This series continues to pack the action and the suspense. This was a great episode, although waiting several months for new episodes is a bummer.
