Artemis goes back into action in a mission to stop Aqualad and his father’s army of underwater villains from destroying a satellite that will link Earth communications with Mars. But in the midst of the battle against Kaldur, someone gets hurt badly and Lagoon Boy gets captured. Elsewhere, we find out why Superboy and Miss Martian broke up. It’s a nasty one.

Just on the heel of a big revelation last week about the original Speedy and the introduction of Impulse, the plot continues to thickens and while I was really excited about some of the turns of events in this episode, by the end of the episode, I felt cheated. But first let’s deal with the easy part which we all understood when it was hinted at in the second episode of season two of Young Justice. Miss Martian has been playing tricks on villains’ minds and leaving them catatonic. That’s partly why Connor – Superboy broke up with her. But the real reason for the break up is that Meagan tried to make Connor forget that she had been tempering with other people’s mind. But Connor in a very touching scene revealed how he knew she was playing with his mind the moment she tried because as her lover, he was used to have her mind caress his or something like that. Wow. That’s the kind of intimacy that was revealed years ago by Cyclops of the X-Men in regards to Jean grey. Seeing the same kind of connection between two characters here, was amazing. We know Connor still loves Meagan, but can’t bring himself to approve of her actions. At the end of the episode he almost consoled her, but Beast boy beat him to it.

Now for the bad and it’s a spoiler. It was Artemis who was killed by Aqualad. But Aqualad it is revealed is but a double agent having infiltrated his father’s group and fake Artemis’ death. She didn’t die. She’s going undercover with Aqualad to try to figure out who the light is and to stop them. I didn’t like the revelation that Artemis did not die. That scene was powerful and would have set Aqualad as a major villain for the series. But if you like Aqualad and were angry that he had switched side to be with the villains, then, this episode was written just for you. You’ll be happy. He’s still a good guy. I don’t like it. I really like Aqualad in season one. We can all agree he was one of the best written characters in the series. However, turning him into a bad guy was cool and opened up so many more stories. Now, it’s all the same and he’s just another good guy.

I wonder if the season is approaching its end for such a big reversion of previous events to have occurred. I really felt bad for Artemis when I thought she had died. The story potential wasted in this fake death are annoying. Now if the new direction of the plot with the two undercover leaguers can be as entertaining, maybe I’ll be able to accept this cop out. But really, is another double agent story as worthy as one former leaguer assassinating another one in combat?
