It’s Thor versus the Silver Surfer and Odin versus Galactus. Galactus wants to consume the Worldheart, the seed at the core of the World Tree. But Odin refuses and war is waged by the two powerful entities and their troops/heralds. As the battle wage and each entity tricks the other, Thor commits a major strategic coup. But is striking straight at Galactus an error or a gain?

It’s a good issue. Recent Thor stories since the reboot are good again. Fraction gets it. He’s not J. Michael Straczynski, but he has a good fair for Thor. The battle is epic and I like how each entity reached out inside the mind of the other to fight him. While the peons fight with mere fists and weapons, the entities fight with trickery not inflicting real pain, but attacking nonetheless through deception. The Art of War’s Sun Tzu would be proud. Another mention about this issue is Volstagg. The fat Asgardian has been getting a lot of screen time in many Thor material in both comic books, film and animation. He really has become a character of his own and the most charming of Thor’s support cast. In this issue, he continues with the humour and crazy antics. It’s fun to read about him. Fraction really gets this character.

Olivier Coipel is one of my favourite artists. To think that people used to complain about his work when he was working on Legion of Super Heroes for DC Comics. Granted most of his characters look alike, he has the ability to capture mundane and non heroic characters unlike anyone else. His use of facial expressions has also improved tremendously since he last worked on Thor as its regular artist.
