The Spirit joins forces with a tough, sexy, female CIA agent named Silk Satin to capture a crimelord who is hiding out somewhere in Mexico. But the villains turn the tables on the heroes who find themselves running for their lives in the desert. This issue has great art as always, making full use of the limited panel space and amazing use of lighting and subdued colors. The story could use some tightening though as too much time is spent on supporting characters. The big bad guy, called "the Octopus" never really gets a chance to show how dangerous he is. Silk Satin comes off well, another one of the great mystery dames that the Spirit runs into. But as in so many issues of this new book, the guy who comes off looking worst is-- the Spirit. He seems like a nice, upstanding guy and all, one of the most appealing heroes in today's dark, gritty era of comics but his best clues practically fall into his lap and the supporting cast saves his bacon far too often. Is it just a coincidence that the cover has the girl carrying a helpless Spirit? Or is that going to be a pattern for the rest of this guy's carreer?
