Cyborg gathers a new gang of Teen Titans only to have them all attacked before they perform a single act of heroism. The main things that distinguish this issue are the gore, gratuitous nudity and ill-placed sexual references. This may be a "Teen Titans" special but this comic is clearly not written for teens. On the other hand, discerning adults probably won't enjoy it either. It opens with a flashback to the classice Wolfman-Perez Titans engaged in a battle with Bizarro and the Joker. The fight is so poorly staged and yet, goes on and on, that this flashback only serves to remind us of how far the Titans franchise has fallen since the late-1980s. Then, we see the new crop of Titans getting cut down with ease by a mystery villain. The art is sleek and detailed but like a bad IMAGE comics product, is also overdone and empty. Frankly, it looks like an attempt at imitating Rob Liefeld. There is a hilarious panel with Robin's muscular legs bursting out of his too-tight shorts that actually looks like bad gay porn. This issue could be used as a prime example of the deterioration of DC Comics: flashy art with a so-so story. And the main attraction they use to lure in readers is the prospect that some minor characters will get killed. Well, at least it has a nice cover although after reading the comic, the cover actually comes out looking as a bad joke. One out of five stars.
