Irresistible #4 concludes this mini-series penned by Raven Gregory. I categorized the first three issues as erotic thrillers, though I feel compelled to label this finale under horror. The protagonist Allen Keeg is at the end of his rope. The curse laid upon him by a biblical figure which renders him completely irresistible to women has reached it's most violent level. Women are now willing to anything, including assault, rape and potentially murder in order to go to bed with him. This isn't funny anymore, it's not even a fantasy. This is a life or death situation. Keeg has been made aware that the only way to end the curse is to kill the individual he loves the most. If he doesn't, there is a descent chance he won't survive the curse, but does he have the constitution to preserve his own life over the woman he has been so desperate to reunite with?

Keeg tries desperately to find a way out of the situation, including confessing his dilemma to a Catholic priest. While he initially feels a since of relief after listening to the priest's advice, the reality soon sets in that in spite of a few kind words, he is still left with the choice to commit murder or not. He realizes there are no easy answers, and there may never be a true "answer" at all.

Allen Keeg eventually has a revelation, an epiphany about his curse and everything that led up to it, but by that time, the consequences of his actions have been etched in stone. I'll admit I was disappointed with the ending of this story. There are so many questions left unanswered and so many tragedies that could have been avoided. However, I realized that's what we always look for in life: happy endings to conflicts we wish we had never been placed in (or placed ourselves in). The truth is we don't always get the finale we desire or the one we think we deserve. Death is omnipresent in Irresistible #4, and as in life, is seemingly inevitable. I usually pride myself on being able to realize the message a creator is attempting to convey when telling a story, but I am forced to admit, I'm at a loss here. I don't have the answer... but then, maybe that's the point.

Rating: 7/10
