It’s the final showdown between the Green Lantern Corps and the Darkstars. At stake is even-handed justice in the known universe, because the Darkstars believe in lethal retribution, as opposed to the GLs more passive philosophy of incarceration. An to win this conflict, the GLs have recruit some of the DCU’s nastier villains, showing they are not entirely idealistic in their pursuit of justice.

The story arc ends here, perhaps taking a breather from the cosmic storylines we’ve come to expect. I have read there is a new Green Lantern title forthcoming from DC, though I don’t know if it’s an addition or a replacement to the current franchise. Given the scope of the franchise, I certainly feel there is room for more, though I hope it will be tied to the other titles more closely. At the moment, each of the current titles seems to operate completely unrelated to the other.

Part of that may be the result of fresh GL recruits we are promised. Perhaps the scope of the DC Universe is such that one GL for each sector is no longer enough. There appears to be six for 2814, so why shouldn’t other sectors have additional GLs? The Guardians seem to be on board with the idea, which is refreshing given their frequent arrogance. Their collective “we know better than those who occupy the front line,” attitude is very tiresome to anyone who has ever served in a corporate environment.

One of the strength’s of this issue is its dialogue. Venditti is skillful at delivering Hal’s verbal sparring Tomar Tu, John’s exchanges with Zod, and Guy’s overall comments. Together, they represent various facets of the two groups conflicting philosophies toward achieving the same goal.
