The Green Lantern Corps. in an all-out struggle with an army that seems nearly immune to their rings.

Guy Gardner and a small detachment of Green Lanterns are stuck on a planet where a huge army of soldiers surrounds them. While their opponents seem to be crudely armed, the Lanterns' power rings don't seem to affect them very well.

The reader may be wondering why the Lanterns simply don't use their rings to bury their enemies under a mountain or find some other way to use their vast powers to indirectly defeat enemies who are mainly wielding swords and shields.

But in way, this issue is merely a war story with the small unit holding out against overwhelming odds while waiting for the cavalry to arrive. In this sense, at least, we do get an action-packed, exciting story with impressive scenes of soldiers depending on each other in the worst situations. Sacrifices are made but the heroes win in the end. It is quite enjoyable as long as we don't think too much about the inconsistensies.

The art is also packed with action with all characters looking very dynamic as they wield scarey-looking weaponry at the hordes of finely-delineated enemies. The detail in both the ring-created weaponry and the expressions on the character's faces are all fully fleshed out. Makes you wonder why DC Comics is having trouble with its military line of comics.

It is odd that you have to look to the Green Lantern franchise for DC's red-blooded war stories.
