Dynamite Comics announced on Friday December 13, 2013 that they would start publishing a new Magnus Robot Fighter series in March 2014. The new series is the first of three to revive old Gold Key properties such as Solar Man of the Atom and Turok Dinosaur Hunter. In the new series written by Fred Van Lente and drawn by Cory Smith, Magnus is a 20th century teacher who wakes up one day in the future where he is a hero fighting robots.

The irony here is that Van Lente is one of Valiant Comics' most prolific writer and many fans' wishes for the rebooted company to obtain the licenses for Magnus, Solar, Turok and Doctor Spektor will not come through but will be very close to be. Valiant Comics was the first company to revive the old Gold Key characters in its first incarnation in the early 1990s. However, the Gold Key characters have since been sold to a few companies now owned by Dreamworks Animation.

In the new series, Magnus's look has been completely revamped. He no longer wears a short mesh skirt and jumps around bare-legged. Instead, his look has been revamped with a full body mesh and dark sides.

I'm not sure if the series debuting on March 12, 2014 will be as good as the one from Valiant in the 1990s but it can't be worse than Dark Horse Comics' failed 2010 relaunch.
