Solar has to battle the army of Moloch the Devourer, the Mesopotamian god and his second in command, Surya. The odds are against him, but when he’s about to fail, he finds new hope in his love for Gail. Will that be enough to summon the power he needs to defeat these foes that were spawned from the mind of pulp writer Whitmore Pickerel?

Moloch is a creep. That makes him a great villain. I like how Solar’s competence is tied with his mind and feelings. It’s not explained like this, but the more he believes in himself, the more he can do. Very few writers can evolve past their generation’s years, but Shooter proves that he can writes a super hero script with the best of today’s writers and that he has nothing to learn from them. He’s also adding more potent threats for Solar in future issues as seen in this issue’s subplot. It will be a challenge to see how he a powerless foe can become a real threat to Solar.

As I write before, Robinson’s work is more suited for this series than the previous artist because it’s more super hero-oriented. The line work reminds me of Gil Kane’s drawings. Funnily, it’s also kinetic. For those not familiar with Solar The Man of the Atom, this series is worth picking. The story is still slow, but it packs enough action and contents per issue. It’s not a five minutes read.
