The Dark Avengers hook up with the psychic division of Norman Osborn’s H.A.M.M.E.R. to locate Nathan Grey, the mutant from another reality with infinite powers. But on the way to finding the renegade mutant, the Dark X-Men, who are not exactly angels meet some of the spookiest and questionable crews of Norman Osborn. Will the Dark Beast feel just at home in this new environment?

This series is definitely not something I wanted to subscribe to but it’s one of those experiments that just grows on you. I like the team dynamic with little straight man next to all the loons running around. Mystique is actually the closest to the most serious and mature person in this crew. It’s weird in a sense because she’s had so much experience leading teams of crazy villains in the past but with this crew, she seems overwhelmed. The Dark Beast is a complete nut but he’s an interesting character nonetheless. I’m still not sure if the events of this series will spill over into Siege, but that would be fun.

It takes a good inker to make Leonard Kirk interesting as an artist. He seems to leave too many blanks usually that need to be filled by a capable inker. Leisten, fortunately is up to the task and delivers the solid structure missing from the sketchy work of Kirk. It’s a good combination and a most pleasurable comic book over all.
