This one shot Captain America story lead into the Siege storyline where the Marvel Comics super heroes fight against the Norse god Loki and Norman Osborn, Director of H.A.M.M.ER. The first Captain America has decided that he will not take back his role and will let his former sidekick Bucky Barnes have the role for a while. But all is not done with Steve Rogers, the original Captain America as he enters into a secret mission for the President of the United States. What will be his new role in the Marvel Universe?

I thought this would be another mini-series to follow that would drag on as the characters decide who will be Captain America. Although the end of the story resolves that quickly, so it’s not a problem after all. In fact the story is decent. I cannot wait to see where Brubaker takes this story next. In terms of story, it was a technically perfect one. The heroes and their conflicts were introduce and their inner conflict quickly resolved by the end of the story. Then, the lead in to a possible greater conflict was shown. Brubaker here has an opportunity to take the center stage of the next Marvel Comics’ crossover event. Let’s hope he uses that opportunity well.

This issue could have been published within the regular Captain America run. It is created by the same regular team that has work on the regular series and the Captain American Reborn series. The one thing I do miss is the fully dimensional colouring of the regular Captain America comic book series that gave a realist bent to the earlier issues in this run.
