Steve Rogers pleads the innocence of the new Captain America, Bucky Barnes with the President of the Unites States, as the media continues to portray the former Winter Soldier as a menace and a traitor. Avenger Hawkeye doesn’t like the situation either. Baron Zemo’s plan has worked perfectly. Can Captain America’s reputation be salvaged?

This issue was one of the better ones that I’ve read in a while albeit being very simple and not earth shattering. It’s a rally of the old Captain America in favour of the new one and it invokes a classic theme of the Avengers, that of the reformed villain who becomes a hero. It was interesting to see Hawkeye’s reaction to the plight of the new Captain America given Hawkeye’s own shrouded past and ambitions to become Captain America one day. What I did like is that in character, Hawkeye stood by a fellow Avenger in public while debating the issues of the Captain’s past with the senior members of his team. Seeing the Black Widow as one of the supporters for Captain America debating things with Hawkeye was also interesting, given their own love interest in the past and how the Widow is not a black and white operative either. It’s issues like this one that brings back the brain that made the earlier issues of this run much more enjoyable. I’m glad the series is off to a good path.

Changing the artist probably made me like this comic book even more. Aruna has a great reputation for drawing characters in a way that makes them look like they’re from a political thriller. With the old Marvel Comics look of past issues, I’m glad we have something more solid to concentrate on. Aruna particularly reveals the distinct traits of every character he draws. I like how skinny his Tony Stark is, compared with Steve Rogers.
