The new Captain America, assuming his Bucky persona because the crazy Captain America of the 1950s forced him to must fight his “mentor” and stop him from blowing up Hoover’s dam. Like I said before this storyline is nothing but an attempt to clean up an old plot point that Brubaker reintroduced himself. Unfortunately, he doesn’t complete the job and leaves a door open for the crazy Captain to come back. The values that this Captain fights, although well explained – he’s a libertarian militia type against the government does not translate well in this comic book. We know he is a libertarian mistrustful of the government and big business, but we hardly know why. So the fight with him and Bucky which is supposed to be a symbol for political views is useless as Bucky Barnes, the new Captain America doesn’t really stand for anything. It felt like I was reading one of those silly comic books from the 1960s where the villain fell to his death at the end of the issue after failing to ignite the doomsday device. Hum, ok that’s exactly what I read. Ross and Guice continue to draw excellent Captain America material here, although the story element is rather weak.
