Bart Simpson #34

This issue of the bimonthly series includes three stories with Bart Simpson and his family. In the first story, because of a Bart Simpson’s prank, his teacher, Ms Krabappel, has to live with the Simpsons. In the second story, Willie, the groundskeeper at Bart school tells the kids about his past as a member of the Scottish band, the Weasels. Finally, Bart and his dad, Homer Simpson both enter a hamburger making competition. Which one will win?

The first story with Ms Krabappel has some nice touches and lots of humour coming from other characters mocking Bart. The Mr Krabappel joke was not used enough though. The second story was less interesting. The final punch line was not well developed and the entire life experience of groundskeeper Willie was not touched upon. The last story gave a classic Bart versus Homer story which was quite interesting, as the exchanges when the two characters play one against the other usually are the best aspect of the regular television series. However, the ending was all too predictable.

I like that the artwork in this series is so similar. Although there are small variations, all characters are instantly recognizable. Unlike all the Batman animated series, the characters’ model sheets are always respected. This is how a comic book based on licensed property should be conceived.

7/10
