MADAGASCAR
Why you might like it
· The quartet of Stiller, Rock, Schwimmer, and Ms. Jada is a winning one. They have great chemistry, and they’re
just funny
· The penguins are scene-stealers. If they don’t get their own movie (unlikely for a number of reason), then they should show up again in some other DreamWorks cartoon.
· PDI, DreamWorks computer animation partner, advances the medium, using computer graphics that mimic the “squash and stretch” effect of classic hand drawn/2D Warner Bros. cartoons by Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, and Chuck Jones
· Cedric the Entertainer
Why you might not like it
· Rock and Stiller, as a duo, don’t sell the buddy movie concept
· Drama and poignant moments don’t ring true
· Script is flat and the plot exists solely as a place upon which to hang funny scenes
I enjoyed it. MADAGASCAR is funnier than DreamWorks’
Shark Tale, the fall hit of last year, but no single actor or group of actors in this film is as funny as Will Smith was in Shark Tale. It’s not as funny as the
Shrek franchise, but the little kids that were in the theatre when I was watching it really got a kick out of this movie. MADAGASCAR might be DreamWorks’ most accessible film to date for nine and under.
