Dare to Believe in the Unbelievable with SANCTUARY

This June, return to the unbelievable world of Sanctuary, the trailblazing Syfy channel series that follows Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping, Stargate SG-1) on her quest to study and protect the extraordinary and legendary creatures that secretly live among us.  SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON, which earned a 2009 Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, will arrive on DVD ($44.98 SRP) – and for the first time ever on Blu-ray ($49.98 SRP) – on June 15.  Releasing simultaneously with Season 2 will be a Blu-ray edition of SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON ($49.98 SRP), which includes the exclusive “Pilot Episode: Visual Effects Picture in Picture” bonus feature.
 
Presented with cinematic clarity in anamorphic widescreen with 5.1 Surround Sound (as well as DTS HD 5.1 Master Audio on Blu-ray), SANCTUARY: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON includes an astounding arsenal of exclusive extras including: audio commentaries on all 13 episodes with cast and crew including Amanda Tapping, creator Damian Kindler, director Martin Wood and more; four mini-featurettes (“International Sanctuary,” “Amanda Tapping Directs ‘Veritas’,” “Dancing in Mumbai” and “Sanctuary Visual Effects”);  “Anatomy of an Episode,” an in-depth look at the “Next Tuesday” episode from script to screen; two “Robin Dunne Video Diaries” (“Behind-the-Scenes” and “Sanctuary Goes to Japan”); the “Sanctuary Goes to Comic Con” featurette, a “Bloopers and Outtakes” reel; and a production stills photo gallery.
 
Sanctuary follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic and always surprising Dr. Helen Magnus as she tracks down, studies and protects the strange and often terrifying creatures that secretly populate our world.  Although dismissed as monstrous figments

of our imaginations and the stuff of our nightmares, Magnus recognizes that the world is full of nature’s mistakes and triumphs.  And she has the spectacular proof that they are indeed real.  For some ‘abnormals,’ Magnus is their protector.  For a dangerous few, she is their captor.
 
In Season 2, Magnus and her team face off against an unlikely “superhero” who’s causing chaos, tangle with an unusual sea creature off the coast of Louisiana, battle a doctor who’s been turning his patients into a powerful new breed of vampire, and seek the secrets to the ancient Cult of Kali.
 
Sanctuary stars Amanda Tapping as Dr. Helen Magnus (Stargate SG-1), Robin Dunne as forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Dawson’s Creek), Ryan Robbins as tech expert Henry Foss (Battlestar Galactica), Agam Darshi (2012) as professional con artist Kate Freelander, and the mysterious and unpredictable Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt (Stargate Atlantis).
 
Braving new worlds in each episode is just the start for Sanctuary.  The series is also proudly credited for pioneering new techniques and technology in television production and is one of the only series to shoot extensively on green screen.  The series was also the first in North America to shoot with the new RED camera – a digital system that captures images at four times the resolution of a high definition camera, resulting in a look that is unmatched on television.
