Rated “M” for “Mature”

The alien mothership arrived on Earth August 31st – also known as 8/31 – and parked itself above Tokyo.  Now, after three years, the impending doom of an alien invasion is starting to feel mundane.  Kadode Koyama and her friends, including her best friend, Ontan “Oran” Nakagawa, track the diminutive aliens or Invaders' movements with enthusiasm as they begin college.

As Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction, Vol. 6 (Chapters 41 to 48) opens, the mysterious Takarada reveals the secret under the new National Stadium.  Kadode still has a crush on her former teacher Mr. Naoki Watarase, but he informs her that he is moving back home.  Will they have a farewell booty call?  The friends also celebrate Ontan's birthday, all except Futaba Takemoto.  She is busy with her activities in S.H.I.P., a pro-Invader organization, but what the organization's leadership will ask of her might change her life.

Plus, Keita Oba, the alien who lives with Kadode, attempts to rescue one of his fellow aliens.  What he learns from the dying alien suggests bad times ahead.

THE LOWDOWN:  The Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction manga remains a bit odd, as are most manga by Inio Asano.  Also like other Asano's work, Dead Dead Demon is inventive and often mercurial, with the drama being as poignant as it is offbeat.  The narrative often deals with life that is mundane, but something darker is coming.

Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction Graphic Novel Volume 6 is more of the same... with two exceptions.  For one thing, the subplot involving Futaba and S.H.I.P. has taken an intense turn.  The direction of the subplot involving Oba the alien has been suggested in recent volumes, but there is more focus on the inevitably of that direction.

Vol. 6 is one of the better volumes in this series, as was Vol. 5.  Like previous Asano series, Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction seems ready to explode as we get closer to the end.

I READS YOU RECOMMENDS:  Fans of the manga of Inio Asano will want to read the VIZ Signature title, Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction.
