The Spectre returns, with a new host-- murdered detective Crispus Allen. But rather than forcing himself on Allen, the Spectre gives the guy a whole year to think things over before merging We get a long story of Allen reflecting on his previous life and beliefs. He is an interesting character but is not interesting enough to support an entire comic. The Spectre is depicted as more reflective and thoughtful than he has been before. It is only in the end that we see the spirt of vengeance finally living up to his reputation. The art is understated but still dramatic. Hopefully, future issues will see the story pick up. There have been too many SPECTRE series that have reduced to giant angst-fests with excess of talking and not enough action.
