Fantagraphics Books has announced that Linda Medley's Castle Waiting will return this June with a hardcover collection and a new series that begins the next month in July.

Medley was the 1998 Eisner Award winner for "Best New Series" and "Talent Deserving of Wider Recognition. The hardcover will collect the original Castle Waiting series. Medley, a freelance illustrator since 1985, has illustrated children's book and has worked in the comics industry as penciller, inker, painter, colorist, and sculptor. She has pencilled Justice League and Doom Patrol for DC and the Galactic Girl Guides (a spin-off of Elaine Lee and Michael W. Kaluta's Starstruck) for Tundra. She has also painted covers Paradox Press (an imprint of DC Comics) and TSR's Dragon magazine.

Solicitations for both the hardcover collection and the first issue of the new series is as follows:

$29.95 * 472 pages * B&W * ISBN 10: 1-56097-747-7 * ISBN 13: 978-1-56097-747-6
The 472-page Castle Waiting graphic novel tells the story of an isolated, abandoned castle, and the eccentric inhabitants who bring it back to life. A fable for modern times, Castle Waiting is a fairy tale that's not about rescuing the princess, saving the kingdom, or fighting the ultimate war between Good and Evil — but about being a hero in your own home.

For the first time, Fantagraphics’ Castle Waiting collects Medley’s 1990s Harvey and Eisner Award-winning epic into one mammoth volume — and includes the concluding chapter written and drawn especially for this volume. Linda Medley lavishly illustrates Castle Waiting in a classic visual style reminiscent of Arthur Rackham and William Heath Robinson. Blending elements from a variety of sources — fairy tales, folklore, nursery rhymes — Medley tells the story of the everyday lives of fantastic characters with humor, intelligence, and insight into human nature. Castle Waiting can be read on multiple levels and can be enjoyed by readers of all ages.

$5.95 * 64 pages * B&W
The award-winning series returns in July with all-new adventures, picking up where the hardcover leaves off! The first issue of this new series is a giant, oversized issue that includes the last two, little-seen and long out-of-print self-published issues of Castle Waiting (#s 15 and 16), which began a new storyline (and are not included in the hardcover collection), as well as the all-new 24-page third chapter. This 64-page extravaganza (at the low price of $5.95) is the first of an all-new, ongoing Castle Waiting series that will be published every six weeks!

Future issues will be 32 pages for $3.95. Before deciding on her living quarters in the tower of Castle Waiting, Lady Jain receives a tour from “the Beakster” of every sprite-filled corner. In the counting room, she is transported, through a series of flashbacks, to her childhood. Sister Peace looks for a housewarming gift while Chess gets a shoe repaired.
