ANGRY YOUTH COMIX #12

FANTAGRAPHICS BOOKS
CARTOONIST: Johnny Ryan
24 pp., B&W, $3.50

In the world where Johnny Ryan resides, prudes throw parties that would make Diddy envious and Hefner blush, and the term "Political Correctness" is the title of movie spy thriller.  The ruder the joke, the harder the laughter.  Of course, even in that world, they might be shocked by Angry Youth Comix #12, Johnny Ryan's latest assault on good taste in the name of humor and laugh out loud gag comix.

Over the course of its run, Angry Youth Comix has featured a large cast of degenerates and do-no-gooders, but issue 12 focuses on the most dangerous cast member, Boobs Pooter.  In fact, this issue is sub-titled, "Boobs Pooter's Jokepocalypse."  Boobs is a kind of showman, emcee, and comedian.  He wears a bowtie, striped red jacket, and hat.  As this issue is his showcase, Boobs wants to initiate one horrible joke on the world, a joke so atrocious that when he delivers the punch line, the world will be a beaten, soiled, and humiliated sucker.

Along the way, Boobs uses "Holocaust juice" to transform innocent bystanders into lamp shades, unleashes randy ballistic missiles, fights breast cancer in a repulsive fashion, inadvertently causes the President of the United States' murder, and battles the Klan.  Clearly this material is over the top and out of bounds.  As with any of Ryan's comix, the attitude is all in the eye of the beholder, and if you don't mind be offending if it means lots of laughs, Angry Youth Comix is, as always, right up your alley.

8/10
