Amour #5 cover

Amour, Approbation Comics’ romance anthology series, returns with three tales of love off the beaten path.  All three stories are written by series creator, Bart A. Thompson.

Amour #5 opens with “Snapshots” (art by Alan Akerman), a tale about a burgeoning long-term relationship that could be undone by the fear of what the parents might say.  In “The Reunion” (art by Sinee Misgari), young lovers must learn how to say goodbye… forever.  Finally, will a premature parting mean a couple’s love isn’t “Always and Forever” (art by Ezequiel Pineda)?

THE LOWDOWN:  The playful romance and crisp, sparkling dialogue of the third issue of Amour is replaced by strange love in the fourth issue.  If Amour has a theme, it’s that no one romance is fully like any other.  Often the closest thing to normal is something that puts a spin on the classic love story, such as the gay relationship in “Snapshots.”  This time around, however, there’s something missing.  The stories here are love in malaise, which belies the sparkling lovey-dovey fun that the cover presents, so while it matches Amour’s theme of diversity, the fun is largely gone from this new issue.

POSSIBLE AUDIENCE:  Readers looking for romance comics will find it in Amour.
