The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series the Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman. The story follows Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) who wakes up in a world overrun by zombies a world commonly referred to as a zombie apocalypse. He travels to Atlanta to look for his wife Lori (Sarah Wayne Callis) and his son. Eventually he is reunited with his wife and son and a group of survivors who try to decide where to go and what to do. The story focuses on the humanity of the characters and tries to provide a realistic approach to how people would live in a zombified world. The characters in this story are not perfect, they are very human with human flaws.

My Personal Bias
This was a comic that I read last year, but when I started reading it I fell in love with it. Despite all the horrible and sad things that happened, I found it to be very compelling. When I heard they were doing a show about it, and it was going to be on AMC of all channels, I knew it was going to be great. AMC has made some fantastic shows, most of which, I don’t watch, but I hear they’re pretty good. The production quality of their series has been spectacular and they’ve won a lot of awards for their shows as well. So I knew this would be a hit, and it was nice to see them do a genre based show unlike Breaking Bad or Mad Men. Zombies don’t appeal to everybody, but they appeal to me. I have given some serious thought as to what I would do in a zombie apocalypse, most of which includes looting everything that isn’t nailed down, granted this is a television series and not a video games, but many of my criticisms involve the rationality of the characters, why do they do the things that they do? Sadly I have yet to actually see chronic looting in a series or movie, but one of these days I hope I will. Anyway I like the theme of the zombie apocalypse and that is probably why I enjoy this series as much as I do.

My review of this series, will be compared to the original comic book series, when applicable as the television series does not follow the comic book series completely, but there are some close moments. I plan to post a review of each episode per day for the next six days. The final episode will also contain some of my predictions for the next season. If you want to watch start watching the episodes, AMC has been doing encores on their channel, and if you check their schedule you can probably find out when they air.

Rating: 9.5 /10
