The Flashes of two worlds and the Green Lanterns of two worlds meet as DC heroes enter the alternate Tangent universe.

The Tangent universe was an experiment of DC Comics where a whole new continuity was created with characters that had the names of familiar DC figures-- but where everything else was different. In the Tangent universe, their Superman, a man with vast mental powers, has taken control of the world, bringing peace but no freedom.

Rather than rushing into action, Green Lantern--John Stewart and Flash--Wally West, get an explanation on how this world works. This also helps newcomers learn rather painlessly, about the background of Tangent and the threat that the heroes of two worlds are now facing.

John Stewart and Wally West may be sitting back in this issue but the Tangent heroes are already in action. Even if you don't recognise these characters who are struggling to free their world, they do come off as sympathetic and interesting. Those who still remember the Tangent comics will enjoy catching up to their old favourites-- even if they might not like what eventually happened to them.

The art has a liveliness about it that makes it easy to follow despite the profusion of new faces. It is also remarkably sharp, which makes it easy to differentiate all the characters. The biggest problem with this issue is a bizarre scene where the Tangent Superman reprimands King Farouk of Saudi Arabia. This just looks out of place. What was the point of this? Is it going to be part of the wider story or was this just to make us feel better about the high gas prices? Just the same, this issue gets three stars out of five.
