Review: Super Sons #6

I remember the original Super Sons in the 1970s; a couple of teenage pals, hanging out, trying to do their thing without getting hassled by The Man. This aint them (thank goodness).

Damian thinks he’s training Jonathan, which, given the Son of Steel is only 10 years old is not beyond the realm. So when a Teen Titans mission comes up, Damian is quick to abandon hanging with Jonathan in favor of “more important stuff” with the older kids. I think we can all relate, amiright?

Perhaps Jonathan would have come in handy against the villain they face. Perhaps they may not be defeated so easily. Or perhaps Jonathan would have fallen victim to the same fate. Next issue will decide.

The artwork by Jimenez is good, with a touch of animé, but he steers clear of it in rendering the Titans (though Starfire hardly looks like a teen to me). Tomasi’s dialogue, coming from young boys, their parents, or their super-powered teammates rings true and refreshing. Much better than the trying-too-hard-to-sound-hip I remember from the old days.
