Street Fighter Legends Sakura #3
Udon Comics
Writer: Ken Siu-Chong
Artist Omar Dogan
Cover: Alvin Lee, Alvin Lee, Susan Luo

Another funny story involving Sakura and her opponents. Here, Karin, the rich spoiled brat decides to oppose Sakura in any challenge of her choosing. Instead of delivering a good old martial art fight, Sakura choses a hotdog marathon, where the girl who can munch the most will is the winner. Can Karin hope to defeat Sakura on her own munching turf? But the real question is, can these skinny little girls hope to eat enough hotdogs to beat the local champion?

This is the type of story that I like and that any parent will too. It’s light and although it contains some serious matters, girls and boys of every age will enjoy it. Instead of being preachy, it’s innovative. The hotdog-eating challenge is a good idea, and the payback at the end of the story is perfect timing for the real fight due next issue. This series is well plotted thus far with real story arcs that are like fight rounds from the real Street Fighter game.

Although clearly Manga-inspired, the artwork is bright and realistic. The jokes inserted throughout make it even more a feast for the eyes. Dogan who handles all art shores, including colouring is a good artist that controls every aspect of the story. There is no competition between the writer and the artist here. Both complement each other.

8/10
