This story explores Street Fighter martial artist life Chun Li, before she joined the Street Fighter contest years ago. At least, that’s what I think this story is about. Here Chun Li is a cop who first encounters Shadaloo, the criminal organization headed by M.Bison M.Bison send Sagat to Hong Kong on business, but it appears that his path will soon cross with that of Chun Li. Which will survive the fight?

This is a simple story, filled with historical errors and typos. Someone really has to tell the guys at Udon Comics how to spell the word emperor. Making a typo once is acceptable. But spelling the same word wrong twice, and correctly another time, shows a lack of editing. At $3.95, I like my comic books to be properly edited and proofed.

I mentioned historical errors. I’m not discussing about the confusing Street Fighter continuity here. It would have helped if the writer had clearly introduced this story as one set in the past, when Chun Li was starting out. It would have helped a lot. But since Sagat doesn’t even have his chest scar, it was easy to guess at the when the story happened, provided one knows a little bit of Street Fighter history.

The story make it sounds that the great wall erected by Emperor Qin Shi Huang is the same that one can visit in China today. The two are totally unrelated and were created with thousands of years apart of one another. I know many readers don’t care about their Chinese history. But some of us do.

Visually, this comic book feels like an animé. It’s got bright colours and weird page compositions used to draw the reader in the action. It should be a fun read, even if the story is weak.

Rating: 4/10
