In the first issue of the new Black Panther series begun early in 2009 and published by Marvel Comics, the Sub-mariner tricks the Black Panther, the ruler of the fictional advanced African nation Wakanda to visit Doctor. Doom's Latveria, a small landlock European state, ruled by the Fantastic Four's archenemy. There, the Black Panther is tricked and caught in an explosion caused by Doctor. Doom's Doombots, and ends up being comatose. His comatose state requires Wakanda to hold a new contest so a new Black Panther be crowned to rule the country.

X-man Storm, is the wife of the Black Panther and returns to North America to help her fellow X-Men in San Francisco against the forces of Norman Osborne, his Dark Avengers and his Dark X-Men. Namor, the sub-mariner who had been a member of Osborne's Dark X-Men suddenly betrays Osborne and joins the X-Men.

So far the two seem to have had a very good relationshipd, although the Sub-mariner is responsible for putting the Black Panther in the hospital. This is one aspect of comic book that is intriguing. They are are virtual soap operas where politics, as American author Charles Dudley Warner, once said "politics makes strange bedfellows."
