Loki  convinces Norman Osborn that he must fight the floating city of Asgard which is hovering above American soil in order for the Norse Gods to return to their rightful place. As he manages to convince his Dark Avengers to follow him, Thor intervenes but is faced with the full might of all the villains and crumbles. If Thor is down, what hope do the other super heroes have against Osborn an Loki which is still pulling the strings?

This issue was disjointed. I understand that this is a crossover flagship but too much elements were left out in the actual scenes available. When did the Asgardians return to Asgard as they were last seen in Latveria in the pages of Thor. The transition to the assault was also mixed up and full of holes. I really liked the premise of a war against Asgard as the catalyst of the series, but there are many problems with this first issue. First, the timing of release let us know that Tony Stark will indeed make it even if the Ghost has been mandated to attack him in Invincible Iron man. The original Captain America whose full return still has not been explained is seen in his old Captain America uniform. There are too many problems with this series and much of the fault lies with the bad shipping timing of several Marvel Comics series. The last page which contains transcripts was also published with mistake. The first page of transcripts appears twice. Marvel Comics should make that page available to their reader on their site or for free in next month’s comic books.

At $3.99, this series felt like a rip off in terms of pages. I know it’s a standard 22 pages comic book, but I felt like nothing was delivered this issue. I like Coipel’s work of course. He reminds me of a better Rags Morales. He gives a feel of majesty to his work which has been lacking since Civil War from Marvel Comics crossovers. Here, we have a great artist and seeing his renditions of all the classic Marvel Comics characters is a joy for a reader. Let’s hope he can keep up the pace and the good work in future issues.

Rating: 6 /10
