The story of the seven sons, is that of Chinese twin brothers each born with different powers trying to save one of their number from a death sentence for a crime he could not prevent. The seven brothers each take turn to replace their other brother and resists the attacks of the villagers in a nearby far West mining town. This story has been told many times with varying numbers of brothers, locales and powers.

This version of the classic tale is probably the most interesting as it takes elements from other version and adds a revisionist twist to the legend. Some details, such as why people always thought the four brothers were similar are explained, but not literally. One has to read the story to understand the mind of the people the brothers lived in. The best part about this tale, is that it could have happened for real, minus the super powers.

Storytelling this universal tale Rossmo, adds an intuitive and serene atmosphere to a piece of work that could easily fit in another style. His ink brushes are explorative and somewhat chaotic. But looked as a whole, there is a sense of overall design to this project. Rossmo’s style is not universal, but in this tale, his talent shines. There is a good use of space and panel design.

10/10
