Thomas help readers of the current summer blockbuster, the Invasion Saga, understand the Skrulls and their history to the Marvel Universe, Marvel Comics is releasing this free comic book gathering events in Skrulls’ history and assembling them in a prologue narrated by Tony Stark, Iron Man. This story shows the extent of what the Skrulls’s invasion of Earth might be.

A concept borrowed from the Ultimate Avengers’ series, the Skrulls’ invasion has been prepared for years by writer Brian Bendis. Because much of the Skrulls’ history covers books spread over 40 years of history, Marvel printed this comic book-sized introduction. I think it is a good way to make new readers who may not have been exposed to the Skrulls in the past understands what they are about.

This book reprints passages from many comic books published in the past and unfortunately, a checklist of all the back issues referenced in this story is not available. It would have been as necessary as the checklist to the current multipart crossover is. But there is no money to be made in back issues and since there doesn’t seem to be a unique collection of all these stories into one volume, readers will have to do without for now.

Being familiar with some of that history, it seems that the interpretation is right, although at one point the three Skrulls who turned themselves into cows years ago need to stop being referenced at every point. There were only three of them. Yet, their milk and their meat has been responsible for a lot of stories ever since. One would think there were ten of them instead of three.

Visually, this book is a mismatch of various stories and like the narrative, there is no comprehensive vision visible or any credits available. However, one will recognize the work of John Byrne, Jack Kirby, Leinil Yu and many more.

This book is available for free at comic book stores and online as a digital comic book from Marvel Comics
