Every one is kung fu fighting in the latest issue of Scooby Doo Team Up. Unlike previous issues when Mystery Inc. teams with DC characters, this issue features a fellow alumni from Saturday morning Hong Kong Phooey. His show ran for 16 episodes during the 1974-75 season.

Scooby and the gang call on him for help while in the middle of a battle with Chinese dragons, who are a little bit frightening. But in tried and true Scooby fashion, there is more to these dragons than meets the eye. And Hong Kong Phooey is just the man – er, dog – to expose them. Assuming he can land one of his super-karate chops, that is.

And speaking of chops, I’m disappointed the forever hungry Shaggy and Scoob don’t make a remark about pork chops, lamb chops and other such food items. But instead, Sholly Fisch went another way, so perhaps my idea is just too predictable.

For younger readers who refuse to get bogged down in the ever-changing continuity issues, this is a fun story. Especially if Mom or Dad (or Grandma and Grandpa) remember watching Hong Kong Phooey, either during its original run or on the Cartoon Network.
