Velma’s brothers Quentin and Rufus are back to convince them that they might possibly have a cure for what’s ailing the world. And of course, Rufus’s widow isn’t taking his resurrection well AT ALL. What this means for Shaggy and Velma remains to be seen.

MEANWHILE… Not-Dead-Fred is back to parlay with the people of the sanctuary his host-body helped establish. But he’s unknowingly brought someone with him, a character straight out of Game of Thrones. I imagine DeMatteis and Giffen have been keeping him in their back pocket until the story allowed for his reveal, because at first glance, he seems like such a rip-off loving homage that an earlier debut might be cause for legal action. I could be wrong; future chapters will tell. I hope I am.

MEANWHILE… we are treated to a little more insight to the Doos, Scooby and Scrappy. Scrappy’s willingness to assist the Brothers Dinkley is explained, logically, other than the geography involved. And thankfully, the kid Cliffy is nowhere to be seen this issue. Oh, how sweet it would be if he turns out to be the Big Bad, and needs to be put down like a frothing Doberman. Jeepers, that would be keen.

I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: this series continues to impress, if only for it’s ability to mine new veins of narrative wealth. I never expected it to have lasted this long without running creatively dry several issues ago, but here we are almost three years in and it keeps chugging along.

Oh, and there's another chapter of Atom Ant, too.

Rating: 7/10
