Daphne is being held prisoner by not-Fred, the nanite-infected corpse that used to be Fred Jones. But Scrappy brings the cavalry – Velma, Shaggy and Scooby – to the rescue. It’s a fire-fight against the monsters, but can they bring themselves to destroy the creature that used to be their friend?

Oh, and Velma and Shaggy are expecting. That was revealed last issue so I don’t consider it a spoiler, but it’s only this issue it becomes public knowledge among the residents of the haven. One might think starting a family in a world gone to hell is shear folly, but Shaggy has the right attitude. To him, it’s a bright light on a dark night, and cause for celebration.

Sadly, things are about to take a turn for the worse, as the reunion of Mystery Inc. takes on a greater scale. What it means for the monsters, Velma, her baby and all concerned remains to be seen in future issues. But given it stems from the source of the original nanite plague, it can’t be good.

This issue also features another chapter of Atom Ant, a misplaced story in my opinion. The Hanna-Barbera character is of a different “flavor” than Scooby Apocalypse, as well as Atom the greater DCU. Perhaps Dyno-Mutt would have been a better back-up feature. But your mileage may vary.

Rating: 7 /10
