The supervillains of the DC Comics universe are exiled to a hostile alien planet and have broken up into warring camps. But even the supposed allies soon turn on each other with Grodd and Mallah in a gorilla showdown.

This comic has a fun, sleazy appeal to it, almost like an R-rated movie. None of the characters are sympathetic and almost all are expendable. There is even a sense that this tale isn't strictly in continuity so anyone who does get killed off will be coming back anyway. So the creative team can feel free about using these characters in whatever way they wish.

There is some smart dialogue and even some good character interaction, especially from the brainier villains like Luthor and Vandal Savage. Some parts look a little too convenient-- (like why would anyone join forces with a lunatic like the Joker or attack a monster like Grodd?) but the whole premise of exiled supervillains is pretty ridiculous by itself so why bother dissecting it?

The art tells the story in a rudimentary manner but it is a little too stiff and stark. There is a lack of shading which just makes things look even more cartoonish. While there is a lot of detail, it does not really serve the story in setting a mood or adding nuance to a scene. You can really tell who the important characters in this story are because the rest of the cast just look like decorations in the background.

This isn't a look into the dark side of the soul. This comic is entertaining but that is all it is. Then again, that is more than you can say for a lot of other books out there.

It gets three and a half stars out of five.
