It’s the Nightwings’ final showdown with the Scarecrow. The odds are 4 to 1 and he has them outnumbered. Partly because he has the fear-crazed citizens of Bludhaven on his side, but also because the Nightwings (three cops and firefighter) just aren’t prepared to handle an honest-to-God super-villain.

Unfortunately, the “real” Nightwing, Ric Grayson, isn’t either. Not that he can’t do it, but he feels no obligation to live the life of a super-hero, since he took a bullet to the head that scrambled his egg. Nevertheless, he’s not prepared to sit on the sidelines forever, either – especially when this battle may cost the life of one of the Nightwings.

This issue features the artwork of Davide Gianfelice, a newcomer to the pages of Nightwing. In the context of drawing a battle with the Scarecrow, the loose rendering works very well. But if Gianfelice  sticks around for future issues, some tweaking may need to be done for the environment of Bludhaven.

Given their amateur status, I have to wonder if the Nightwing team may fragment, with one or members becoming Flamebirds. Yes, you read that right. Because you see, kids, back when Dick Grayson was still Robin, there was another Nightwing, and he had a partner named Flamebird. I honestly doubt DC Comics would resurrect the name/character in some way, but the 11-year-old in me would love it if they did.

Rating: 8/10
