After drinking too much coffee for a decade or so Shannon Wheeler, the creator of Too Much Coffee Man handed me a copy of his Postage Stamp Funnies : Dirty Cartoons XXX at the 2008 San Diego Comic-con. Dark Horse Comics will be releasing many of Wheeler’s postage stamp funnies in one collection later this year, but will omit anything remotely sexual.

I’m not sure what he intends to do with the dirty cartoon funnies, but for those of you who like to laugh at sex and don’t mind the puns being pulled out right and left, you might find this little postage book quite funny. I found it funny, although it read in less than one minute. My complaint is that Wheeler seems to be holding on his best material and barely scratches the glass ceiling of annoyance. And just to make the point clearer, Wheeler, himself pulled out one of the cartoons which he thought was too much over the top from the booklet he gave me. Now, I’ll never know what glimpse at greatness, or vulgarity I will have missed.

If you’re going to do a postage book about sex and weird situations arising from it, there’s no point trying to censor your creativity. I say go for it and go the public relations’ way if it back fires later. It worked for the New Yorker magazine.

Rating: 7/10
