Midnighter wants his boyfriend back and manages to go to hell to retrieve him and confront the demon Nero. Meanwhile, Nero plays a game with Apollo for his soul. Apollo is full of sin, so maybe he belongs in hell after all. Will Midgniter save Apollo’s soul from Nero’s hell?

I dislike comics like this one. It reminds me of Inglorious Bastards where the “good guys” can defeat any opponent, including demons. It also reminds me of Kill Bill and the bad fights. Okay, this comic book reminds of all the excesses from Quantin Tarantino and the no fault hero who can defeat anyone, anytime, anywhere. Yawn. As well as wanting Midgniter to get his ass kicked, which did not happen, I wanted the wonder boy Apollo to lose his soul. The problem with this comic is that none of these things will happen. Midnighter will get his boyfriend, and Apollo will get his soul back. How is that entertaining?

The art, however, is incredibly cool. Fernando Blanco uses heavy inks and patches of blacks that delineate most of the characters and settings, leaving just enough gaps for our brains to fill. Even the colouring is good. This comic’s excess are forgiven just because the art rocks.

Rating: 7.5 /10
