This issue is one part battle, on part aftermath. Superman and Kara battle their opponent throughout Metropolis, during which time Superman applies a variety of strategies, ranging from brute force to strategic analysis. But it’s not enough.
In the aftermath of battle, who should show up but Hal Jordan, uber-douche. He’s fine when he’s in his own comic book, lord and master of all he surveys. Normally he should be out in space with the rest of the GL Corps, as Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz are the designated GLs of Earth. But this is one of two instances this week of him crossing over to other titles, and exerting his non-existent authority.
This issue’s artwork is a little too polished for my taste. It’s good, but the textures seem so smooth and refined that it seems there is little variance. Everything seems to have a disco-like sheen to it. I don’t know if it Maguire’s artwork or Alex Sinclair’s coloring, or a combination of both. Either way, I don’t care for it, but your mileage may vary.
