Harley saves Christmas. Is it any wonder that Christmas is a favorite holiday of DC’s most popular whack-job? So when Santa is dismayed at the sad state of the Yuletide season, she must make a Fantastic Voyage into his psyche to restore his holiday spirit. Perhaps it’s a dangerous proposition for her to be wandering around inside his head, but she used to be a psychiatrist, so…

Lately, Harley Quinn seems to be one mental excursion after another. First to the Caribbean, then to Oz, now to Santa’s workshop. I like a done-in-one story as much as the next guy (assuming that guy isn’t Geoff Johns), but the past few issues have been perhaps too repetitious. Perhaps in the new year we’ll see fresh approach, with new heroes, new villains, etc. Perhaps not brand new, never seen before, but that’s okay. Penguin’s appearance a few issues back was a quite enjoyable.

My only concern this issue was the coloring, which seemed a bit off. Hi-Fi gave Harley blue skin in a number of scenes, I have no idea why. But with four different artists working on the story as a whole, perhaps it was part of the strategy of creating different psychological settings for her to explore.

The cover is a bit of a tease for bat-fans. I’m not one to offer spoilers, but in this case, I’ll forewarn anyone expecting to find Batman in these pages. They won’t. Maybe this was a sales strategy, and if so, it’s really a disservice. If you want a Batman/Harley story, stick to the animated series episode. It will be much more satisfying.
