GTA IV Launches Tonight

It's Monday, April 28^th. Where are you going to be, come midnight? The answer to that question, for many gamers across North America, is “waiting in line to buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto IV ”. Retailers across North America will be closing tonight, only to re-open theirs doors a of couple hours later to begin selling GTA IV and whatever other accessories or related paraphernalia they can manage. Your best chance for picking up the game tonight will be either EB Games/GameStop or Best Buy stores. There will be hundreds of locations opening their doors at midnight across the U.S., and a scant few, only five for Best Buy, for Canada. So just to be safe, and not to be disappointed, check with your local EB Games/GameStop or Best Buy, or click the provided links below. Canadians wishing to purchase the game from an EB Games location in Canada will have to call that location to find out if it will be opening at midnight.

Fans of the franchise looking to get some cool freebies or win GTA IV related prizes will want to get to the launches early, as many of the launch locations will either be giving away, or giving the chance to win various prizes. The first 100 people in line at each of the five Best Buy GTA IV Midnight Launch locations in Canada will qualify to win a Limited Edition GTA IV Xbox 360, not available in stores. The activities at those locations will begin at 9 p.m. local time tonight, leading up to the game's launch.

GTA IV is already extremely popular, thanks to a massive advertising campaign and general buzz. The game is actually expected to exceed the first week sales record, set by Halo 3 ($300 million). Analysts have been saying that they expect the game's first week sales to be somewhere between $360 million and $400 million. Of course, the sales will likely be driven higher thanks to the game launching not only on Xbox 360, but on Playstation 3 as well.
