Law and Order

Mega CityOne. A bustling futopolis* (*Future metropolis. Yes, I know, I have entirely too much fun with words!) A sprawling super conurbation with literally millions of people living there, patrolled and marshalled by the elite specially trained 'Judges'. These judges have the power to stop, arrest, convict or execute you on the spot. They make sure the law is adhered to. Famous among these (feared) and respected law officers is Dredd. Judge Dredd. Extremely tough, but fair. Dredd is a living legend in MegaCityOne.

Judge Dredd was one of my very favourite characters in the British science fiction anthology comic book, 2000AD (both the comic book and Dredd's story). It was a darkly funny, gritty, action-packed and satirical glimpse into the future. And as with all science fiction, it isn't hard to see where some of the plot elements may have been derived from.

With a budget of around $45 million and looking to have already recouped just under half of that in advance sales of the finished movie, this could be a quite successful outing. Karl Urban who has been steadily increasing is body of work these past few years is going to be taking on the role of the granite hard, Dredd.
