Part 2 of the Terrible Trio storyline, told in (appropriately) three parts. But it seems to have interrupted the previous storyline of Batgirl bodyguarding a political candidate targeted by persons unknown. However, that storyline was diverted to another title entirely, so maybe it’s over and done with.

I’ve enjoyed seeing the Terrible Trio resurrected and reinvented for the modern age of storytelling. It’s a more acceptable (if unlikely) concept than three people in masks committing robberies for kicks and giggles. But what manner of mutation they may be remains to be discovered. In a universe that has given us Killer Croc and Tiger Shark, a fox, vulture and another “wereshark” all have historical precedent.

Despite Batgirl’s battle against said Trio, there is still the matter of her personal life – her business, to be specific. It’s hard to run your own company when you spend so much time waging a war on crime. So seeds are planted that will no doubt bear fruit in the near future – bitter fruit for Barbara Gordon.

The art team of Paul Pelletier and Norm Rapmund are joined by Jose Marzan Jr., though it doesn’t show. This speaks to his ability to blend his work consistently with that of his artistic teammates. I think that is sometimes the mark of genuine talent – the ability to fill a role without being obvious about it. It makes for good supporting actors and background musicians.

Rating: 8/10
