Kang the time travelling conqueror is freed by Kangs from other timelines so that he can destroy the Avengers who appear to be a threat only in his timeline. Kang proceeds to erase the Avengers and bring his 40th century armada to the present, but not before Iron Man invokes the secret New Avengers protocol which allows him to recruit Spider-man, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the Thing and War Machine as his new team of Avengers. Will they be able to stop Kang where the real Avengers failed?

I liked this story because it referred to the New Avengers series in the comic books minus Doctor Strange who probably wasn’t available because of some licensing issue. There was even a cop named Bendis after the long time Avenger writer who created the New Avengers. However, only Spider-man showed any smarts or competency and there were no female members like Mockingbird or the Spider Woman. All the other characters were strong men. Even Iron Fist looked lame. However, the characters’ personalities were definitely well-played out.

The story was resolved rather quickly and showed that Tony Stark knows much more about Spider-man that he lets on. That echos the time Spider-man worked under him during the Civil War storyline.  It’s always fun to see a bunch of Marvel Comics characters interacting together in cartoons, so even if the episode wasn’t the best and the most ingenious, it was still very fun to watch.
